What we do
Community Link is a volunteer bureau and is part of the Student Volunteer Centre, run by the Edinburgh University Settlement. It is located between the Chaplaincy and the EUSA offices in the Potterow Centre in the University of Edinburgh.
Community Link arranges volunteering placements for university students and staff as well as any interested people in local and international voluntary groups.
“I am very glad that I had such an exceptional opportunity. My dreams would not have become a reality if not for the help of the Student Volunteer Centre” - Peter A Fayomi, esq. 16/07/08 The University Of Edinburgh.
Why we do it
The Settlement movement was originally founded to provide a ‘town and gown’ link between academic institutions and their wider communities, ‘settling’ undergraduates interested in social reform within impoverished areas of the community.
Community Link follows the spirit of that tradition by helping staff and students into voluntary placements for organisations who can benefit form the skills the individual can bring. The volunteer not only gains from doing something worthy and satisfying but also benefits from gaining valuable and interesting work experience, developing transferable skills, giving them contacts within a chosen field and work-related references for CVs.
How we do it
Anyone that is interested in arranging voluntary work should contact Community Link and we will find organisations that are most suited to their interests, experience and availability.
Likewise, any organisation that is interested in hosting volunteers should contact us and we can help find people who fit the bill!
