Effective and lasting social and community development

Literacy and Numeracy

The City Literacy and Numeracy (CLAN) programme at EUS helps adults to develop their reading, writing, numeracy and computing. We also have small, practical English classes for non-native speakers permanently based in Scotland. Learners are encouraged to think critically about the society they live in, the issues that they have to face and the learning that they are participating in.
Each learner gets to focus on what interests them, setting realistic goals with the help of their tutor. Learners can decide whether or not they would like to take an SQA qualification up to Internediate 1 level. Groups are small, relaxed and free.
We also run groups with other voluntary organisations throughout the city, delivering integrated courses. Recent courses have included:

  • Business Startup course with Men in Mind
  • Childcare ESOL Literacies with Surestart and Saheliya
  • The Park Project, which included guided walks with the Holyrood Rangers.
