Core Skills

  • The programme helps people with few or no qualifications to improve their basic skills at their own pace and to achieve SQA qualifications.
  • The classes are small and friendly and include the subject areas of communications, numeracy, computing and working with others.
  • Other subjects are sometimes available.
  • Courses run for about ten weeks during the school term.

Course Details

We offer the following courses as part of our Core Skills programme.

  • Communication - improve your reading, writing and talking skills.
  • Numeracy - Learn how to use numbers in ways that are useful in everyday life.
  • Computing - Learn how to use a computer, including the basic operations of word processing, database and spreadsheets. Learn how to use e-mail and the Internet.
  • Working with Others - Learn the necessary skills to work in a team.

All courses can lead to an Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) qualification and can be done at different levels according to each individual’s ability.

Concessions may be available for unemployed people or for those on low incomes.
