Euro-Med Youth III Programme
Camp for Nonviolence
(1- 10 November 2008 )
Bethlehem , Palestine
Edinburgh University Settlement Student Volunteer Centre is a partner in the Camp for Non-Violence. This camp will be part of Holy Land Trust youth advocacy program for nonviolence and will be held with the aim of empowering international young people (between 20 - 30 years old) to organize non-violently on issues relevant to them and thus increase their active citizenship. The Camp for Nonviolence will offer ten days of training in strategic nonviolence and organizing skills in addition to other entertainment activities. It will be held from November 1 – 10th 2008 in a rural area outside of Bethlehem. The main objectives are: 1) Delivery of nonviolence training for international youth; 2) providing a constructive activity for young people; 3) community building among the participants; 4) encouraging new nonviolence activities and groups. Participants will be selected according to their commitment to nonviolence and willingness to promote their experience that will be acquired from this summer camp to others in their home countries. Tickets and Visas :
The organizers will be covering 70% of the ticket and visas . Please keep receipts in order to be refunded. Transportation Expenses inside your country are not to be reimbursed. Yet Jordanians , Palestinian Israelis and Palestinians please keep all receipts of transportation in order to be reimbursed.

Monday 3 November

9 :00– 17:00 Trip to Bethlehem refugee camps, bypass roads, settlements, and the wall: the trip also include some surrounding villages like Al-Khader and some important historical and religious sites like the Solomon Pools, Church of the Nativity and Shepherds’ Field in Beit Sahour. Such trip will better inform local participants (Palestinian from the West Bank and from inside the green line) about the situations in neighbouring communities since residents of the different areas in the West Bank does not know exactly the situations in other areas due to movement restrictions between cities. Such trips will also better orient international participants to the problems posed by the Occupation on local communities thus having a clearer pictures of what is going on. 17:30 – 19: 30 Dinner Intercultural evening activity*

Wednesday 5 November

9:00 – 17 :00 Trip to the Dead Sea & Jericho: the aim of this trip is more of a leisure activity and entertainment to participants. However through this trip participants will also have the chance to see Wadi Al-nar street thus experience the difficulties Palestinians face in their daily life trying to move from one place to another. Participants will also visit important sites like Mount of Temptation.

Thursday 6 November

9:00- 17:30 Day Off: international participants would make use of this day to do some personal shopping, or some personal visits like visiting Jerusalem for example which is not scheduled among our field trips because some of the local participants may not have permits to enter Jerusalem.

9:00 – 17:00 Field Trip to Hebron: this trip also aims at exposing participants to the daily Palestinian lives by visiting neighbouring villages near the settlements and hearing real stories form people living there. The visit will also include the Old City of Hebron where participants will have lunch, do some shopping, and visit some of the historical sites like the Tomb of the Patriarchs/Al-Haram Al-Ibrahimi Mosque. 17:30 – 19: 30 Dinner Intercultural evening activity*

CAMP FACILITIES |
-Campsite and Ring-Fire available for all groups and individuals. Kitchen and restroom services are also provided. - Meals are prepared and served for daily-visitors and campers. - A Playground for local children and visitors is currently in the designing process. - Tents including beds with mattresses and pillows - toilets and showers are common (women on one side, men on the other)

ACCOMMODATION |
All participants will be accommodated in Tents at the “Tent Of Nations” where the training activities also take place. Each Tent includes single beds with mattresses and pillows, as toilets are common and reachable (women on one side, men on the other). All meals will be covered by the camp organisers: Meals will be provided at camp and also during the Field trips |

WEATHER |
Usually in November the weather is sunny , dry and hot . Temperature during this period will range of 17-26 C° during the day. Still temperature may drop a little in the evening and sometimes it is windy so please bring a jacket with you. |
